Vacation in Paris Posted on November 10th, 2004 by

Okay, so I just had one of the best weekends of my life! Paris is my new favorite city! My flatmates sheri, andrea, and I took the chunnel to Paris friday night and checked into the most adorable hotel near the theatre d’odeon, right near notre-dame. The hotel was really nice and cheap, but it lacked a shower curtain . . . strange, huh? Saturday we got up early to have cappucino and croissants at cafe le danton on the seine, and proceeded to get made fun of by the french waiters, but in a good way. The cappucino was seriously made with the most caffine ever, so we were jittery as we walked up and down the river to Notre-dame (small but breathtaking), the Louvre (all I have to say is, wow.), the Eiffel tower (very cold at the top), and wound up on the Champs Elysees for dinner and shopping. And yes, I spent too much money, but that’s not the point.

I didn’t quite know how the french were going to react to us so soon after the reelection of George W. Bush (in London, people are very angry about it), so most of the time we put our theatre training to use and spoke with accents, either standard British or Irish, if we were feeling adventuresome. But all in all, the French were very sweet (in that French way). It was such a nice way to spend the weekend! But now back to life in London — ick. Tomorrow for my acting class I have a major project due which required me to go to the Polish part of London in search of a Polish folksong, folkdance, and recipe. Wish me luck that I don’t mess it up!
